‘IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT’

When is the right time to invest?

I write this as I’m creating the strategy for a company I’m involved in. We have big goals and writing the plan to achieve them it’s clear that investment in both marketing and people is needed.

And earlier today I was walking around Barcelona and a major brand had just opened a store in the centre. There’s no doubt it will be tens of millions to fit out and run that one store all things considered.

But what about you?

In my experience most coaches and consultants have a job but not a business. It’s possible to be a business coach but not have a business coaching business.

That’s totally fine if you’re fine with it. But understand that freedom comes in two ways.

1. Loving your work and wanting to do more of it.

2. Building a business that means you don’t have to work.

I actually love both these options, but you can’t always control which one dominates at particular times for you.

And if you don’t have either of these options in your life my suggestion to you would be to invest in getting help to make one or both of these a reality.

What are you investing in? Usually strategic support, people to work in your business, coaching, mentoring and marketing.

Here’s three signs you need to invest.

1. You know you need help. You know you can’t get there without it.

This is a great time to invest. You have goals but you know in your heart and probably your mind that you will not hit those goals without outside support. So go and get it.

2. You want to buy back your time. You know what to do you just can’t or don’t want to do it yourself.

Again a very smart time to invest. This is how you create leverage. In my freedom pyramid this is the third layer that sits above skills and behaviours. Leverage through people, processes, products and finance.

3. You have belief in what you do, you just need talent around you in the respective roles in your business. And to work with someone who can take that belief and build a coherent strategy around it to get the business (and your life) to where you want it to be.

Again very smart to invest here. The work gets done by people better than you, people that compliment your skills, and you fund it through the growth of the business or your existing finances.

What holds people back?

Fear.

Unwillingness to spend money (risk appetite).

And you convince yourself you don’t need that help after all. Then spend time hustling but not really growing, trying to do all the jobs and not really knowing how to do any of them because you’re too scared to take that next step.

But then 3, 6, 12 more months pass by and you’re in exactly the same spot just a little bit older and more pissed off! 🙂 

My recommendation…Don’t be that person.

Investment will always be required to get to a place that you are not currently in.

It’s a fundamental truth.
