BB# 23: This coach earns 7 figures PER CLIENT (and yet doesn't charge any fees!!)
Hmmm how does that work?? Their business model explained :)
Hey friend,
Marshall Goldsmith is the worlds highest paid executive coach. His coaching methods ‘stakeholder centered coaching’ are proven. He earns anywhere north of 7 figures per year from his clients and his client list includes Pfizer, Ford, Best Buy, the World Bank and many more of this type of (blue chip) client.
But what you might not know, and at first might find hard to accept is this…
***He doesn’t charge any fees ***
Nope, not a penny.
So how does he get paid? (and how can you do the same…)
It comes from a commercial strategy that i’m calling the Coaching for Profit (CFP) which works hand in hand with another strategy called Coaching for Equity (CFE).

Okay back to Coaching for Profit and Coaching for Equity.
Instead of working for a fixed fee you become a true growth partner in their business and life. You can charge a percentage of growth over X figure. And you can even take equity in their business in some cases because you become so critical to the growth.
Here’s how you implement CFP and CFE into your business.
Coach Leaders: Working with a founder, a CEO, a highly influential member of a commercial team that has the ability to drive revenue is where this strategy applies.
Back Yourself: It really starts here. If you don’t back yourself to generate increased profits in your clients company you can’t use these strategies. Think through the true impact of the work you do and how it will impact the bigger game. My guess is your work will radically change their business for the better.
Implement the Authority Operating System (AOS): This is phase 1 on my programme ‘High Value Clients (HVC). It’s a behavioural psychology and leadership framework consisting of the following:
Equality: I don’t care how much money they earn, how much experience they have or what circles they mix in, your level of aptitude and transformation is absolutely equal to your clients. Your impact is incredibly high and you can and will change their lives for the better with your work. Never place yourself on a lower level to your clients and act absolutely equal in every facet of your being. BELIEVE.
Courage: You must have the courage to challenge your clients and prospects, to speak your mind when it counts and to be authentic in the way you present yourself. This is incredibly high value for any leader.
Leadership: Lead your market, lead your people, you can be afraid but you have to do it in spite of that (I’m afraid). Work on this every single day. It’s a daily practise.
Get in the room. Virtually, but as importantly in person. This is the way you get these type of deals done. When you’re seen as the leader, you’re making moves, putting on events and mixing with the right people you’re in a position to talk at a much higher level than simply posting on Linkedin or meta allows you to do.
Now look I’m not saying you’re going to approach Apple and start taking a percentage of sales next week (although i’m certain Marshall Goldsmith probably could with the right approach!)
But you can use this with any business owner you’re in contact with. I use this regularly with clients taking a lower monthly fee in return for a percentage of profits or an equity stake down the line. It’s way more profitable and enjoyable.
It’s a confident play, it’s one that lowers the risk for them, and shows you’re committed.
Let’s look at some numbers for a second.
Say you have a business owner with a £2m turnover company and through the work you do with them, physically, mentally, spiritually, financially over 12 months their business grows to £3m. You negotiate your fee based on even 1% of that uplift that’s a 10k fee. How does that compare to your fees today?
Imagine that was 10% not 1%!!!!
So look here’s the message:
Be commercial with your coaching and consulting.
Be agile and think laterally when you’re making deals.
Back yourself and pitch yourself at a high level.
In business there is no black and white. The deal is made when both parties are happy and both CFP and CFE are great tools to have at your disposal.
