Business Breakdown #2 Niche Education Companies (NEC)

How to start your own mentorship programme

BUSINESS BREAKDOWN

‘IF YOU CAN SEE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT’

by Brendan Chaplin

Hey friend,

This year alone I’ve partnered with 3 founders to launch what I term an ‘Niche Education Company’ (NEC). All highly profitable based around a combination of digital products, courses, mentoring and community. All based on the founders core skill set and expertise, selling in the thousands for their core product.

And all of this without that founder spending all day on socials, no paid ads and having to drop their prices.

I’m going to break down how you can do exactly the same.

It’s such a big opportunity that I’m currently in discussions with 3 further founders (or possible founders) to follow that exact model again.

Get a notepad, strap yourself in, in about 3 minutes you might have a new business! :)

NEC: What is it?

When I founded strength and conditioning education all the way back in 2008 it was very niche. Every private company were doing personal training education, universities were offering sports science degrees.

But people wanted specialist knowledge. So they came to me.

As an expert in that field I was able to leverage my own expertise and that of my network to launch, scale and in 2019 exit a highly profitable company. It made millions of pounds and created opportunities for international speaking, investments, super high ticket private coaching and so much more.

The framework I used was building products, running events, community based recurring revenue, leveraging technology, mentoring and coaching. That model still works today.

But the niche has moved on. S&C is far less niche than it was.

People will always want to learn from specialists not generalists. They actively, aggressively seek them out. Hence why I’ve worked with several founders already to launch online companies that serve the market need.

The model works in anything from DJing (one of my clients), coaching and consulting, financial modelling (another in discussion), teaching English, Padel Tennis (another possible launch), basically anything where people want to acquire the skills you have. Either for their own personal benefit or to improve their career or business potential.

Some examples:

If you’re awesome at rehab don’t start a PT company start a rehab education company.

If you’re a DJ that throws great parties start a business training people on how to do that not generic DJ skills.

If you are a coach that specialises in a particular aspect of mindset or business create a framework for that and build your programmes around that framework educating people on that.

Here’s the exact process to work through to bring this to life in your business:

  1. What are you an expert at?

  2. Who want's that expertise?

  3. Build a community of those people. Serve them for free, build your authority.

  4. Create a mentoring programme that guides people from point A to Point B.

  5. Introduce your mentoring or consulting programme and make sales.

  6. Create more impactful experience based opportunities like retreats and immersive training programmes.

  7. Create digital products and courses that offer exceptional value and compliment your core programme.

I do this every day with my clients to help them sigh High Value Clients (HVC). I know how it works and I’m super dialled into this market place.

But there’s a system to it that overcomes the challenges of any business. Like how to decide on your niche, how to deliver a return on investment for people, how to structure and deliver your products and programmes, how to build your audience, pricing, sales and all that cool stuff.

Exactly the process I went through with one of my clients Isaac in his company ‘Athletic Skills’ teaching sports coaches how to incorporate fitness and add revenue streams to their coaching business.

But before you get bogged down in the ‘tyranny of how’ go back to the passion piece. Is this the ‘thing’ for you?

If you are an expert, and by that I mean you have 5 years of quality experience along with a genuine passion for helping others, you are potentially sitting on a highly profitable business opportunity.

Let’s look at those numbers briefly:

In 2024 you can certainly sell your programme for 3-5k. (Consider for a second that my mentorship programme in 2010 was a £3k investment then!!)

If you enrol 3-5 people a month that’s would be 9-25k of revenue monthly.

**On that product alone!

The customer gets an amazing experience, learning from a true expert and you will be fulfilled and excited to deliver great work.

That opportunity is super cool and that’s before we’ve talked about digital product sales, courses, events, and recurring membership style programmes.

If you’re excited by this here’s what I would say to you now.

Write down a list of the areas that you feel you’d like to potentially explore. These would be the areas you’re passionate about and experienced in.

And very simply, email me back with the word ‘NEC’ and we can set up a time to talk through your idea.

I want to work with 3 more people starting very soon to launch, build and scale their business, then sign partnerships, build audience and community and really get the brand out there.

If I’m speaking to you, then you know what to do 🙂 !

Speak soon,

Brendan. Xx
