MINDSET : 

The three phases of truth. Truth is ridiculed, violently opposed, accepted as being self evident. 

I’m seeing this cycle show itself so much at the moment.

In politics. In business. In life.

When I decided to move into the online world around 16 years ago people ridiculed me for it. They couldn’t understand it. They thought I was selling out and wasn’t a purest strength and conditioning coach anymore.

It hurt at the time and was hard to get through. What kept me driving was the desire to be a wealthy coach. Yes money but more freedom and life on my terms.

So I kept publishing, kept creating.

And lost friends and peers for a long time.

What’s interesting now is many of those people are coming to me for support in their next venture. They realise they should have acted sooner and they want that freedom now.

I’ve always kept the doors open and conversations flowing. I had a vision that others did not, but now they have.

That’s great, it really is. Because I want everyone to win.

The message: Expect ridicule, expect people to not take your seriously.

Until they have no choice.

MONEY:

16 letters after your name doesn’t make you stand out. You think it does but it absolutely does not.

FREEDOM:

One of my entrepreneurial heroes is Dana White from the UFC. I’ve watched him build that company from a $2m failure into a $20bn international brand. Incredible.

Even more special because I’ve been involved in the sport for 25 years, prepared and cornered multiple UFC fighters and been through many training camps for athletes fighting on big cards internationally.

Listening to him on Piers Morgan this week he said something I thought was profound.

“The most important speech to protect is hate speech.”

Why?

It’s easy to talk about being pro freedom of speech, but in truth what that really means is the the people you strongly disagree with, the people you find disgusting, must be allowed their platform.

Rowan Atkinson put it better than anyone when he said “the solution to hate speech is more speech”.

I think that sums it up very well.
