MINDSET :
Whether you like it or not you’re in sales.
My advice - embrace it, get good at it, understand what you’re selling, and get on with it.
If you’re a salesperson your job is to sell ‘the thing’. That’s an easy one.
But what about some other roles. What ‘sale’ are they working for?
The founder. Invest in me, work for me, buy me.
Customer service. We care.
The investor. Take my money, I care.
The teacher. Work hard to get a job.
The dentist. Brush your teeth and do your extras.
The doctor. Eat healthily and exercise.
My 6 year old twins sell me everyday on “one more story” at bedtime.
My wife? Too sensitive to mention :)
Once you understand that your main role is sales and persuasion the whole thing gets easier.
Daniel Pink said it so beautifully.
Selling…is more urgent, more important, and in its own sweet way more beautiful than we realise.
The ability to move others to exchange what they have for whet we have is crucial to our survival and happiness.
It has helped our species evolve, lifted our living standards, and enhanced our daily lives.
The capacity to sell isn’t some unnatural adaptation to the merciless world of commerce.
Selling is fundamentally human.
MONEY:
Not all content is created equally.
We must use different content for different purposes. And different content for difference purposes.
The reason your content misses its mark is that it’s talking to someone at the entirely wrong level.
In my coaching I teach people about levels of sophistication in the marketplace.
If your audience doesn’t know they have a problem yet, what’s the point in talking to them about your magical solution to the problem they don’t even know they have?
Example: In 1990 imagine talking to the mass market about the internet. How would that have gone down? It’s not that your product is wrong or poor it’s that your message is not pitched int he right way.
Here’s your three line content strategy across all platforms.
Top of Funnel (TOF) - Make people aware of their problems.
Middle of Funnel (MOF) - Show people how to solve their problems.
Bottom of Funnel (BOF) - Show people how your product works and how they can find out more.
Let’s say you post 10x per week.
Do the following:
4 x TOF, 4x MOF, and 2x BOF.
Simple.
Implement this for 180 days straight and you’ll have a waiting list of clients.
FREEDOM:
It costs zero to start a business.
Yet so many people don’t start one because they think they need a load of cash to get ahead.
I’ve never had external investment at the start of any business. They’ve all been bootstrapped from a zero start.
It takes zero £ to send emails.
It takes zero £ to meet on zoom.
It takes zero £ to open a Canva account.
It takes zero to have a conversation and make a sale.
It takes zero to set up a Linkedin, Insta or any social media account.
